Some background, I had a cyst (i would guess sebaceous) on my face above my lip along my smile line. It started I would say about a year ago and I just ignored it until it became a little noticeable, then I went to the doctor. He told me that there were a couple of things I could do; put hot packs on it (hot towel and hold it against it to see if it will shrink a bit); a sterioid injection (cortizone I believe); or get it cut out.
So I went home and tried the hot packing for about a week. Didn't do anything. So I made an appointment with a dermatologist. He said it's up to me, you can leave it or cut it. If you cut it you get a scar, if you leave it, you have a bump on your face. By this time it was big enough to be noticeable by people, probably 1-2 cm wide, so I decided to go under the knife. A month later (Aug. 6, 2003) I finally got in to get it done by the dermatologist. He broke the cyst and I think this is where we go wrong, but anyways, I get it done, get stitched up and I think my cyst days are over.
A month later its back and growing much faster than the first time. I am not sure what to do as it is even more noticeable because it seems to be closer to the surface than the last one althought it's still only probably a quarter of the size. So what will follow are my trials and tribulations this time around trying to avoid the knife!
